Zachary Koncki of Northampton wins long-jump title for UMass

University of Massachusetts sophomore Zachary Koncki, a Northampton graduate, continued his terrific indoor track season at the New England Championships this weekend in Boston.

Koncki added another title to his impressive resumé Friday by winning the men's long jump with a career-best 23 feet, 6.25 inches - the third-best jump in program history.

Koncki had previously won the Atlantic 10 title in the event.

He later finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 seconds.

Koncki will compete in both events in the IC4A Championships next weekend.

Koncki's teammate, senior Tyler Cotto, won his second-straight New England championship in the 60-meter hurdles.

Cotto posted a season-best time of 7.87 seconds just one week after a victorious run for his first career Atlantic 10 title.

Also at the event, Amherst College junior Ben Scheetz broke the Division III national record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.08. It was good for second behind UConn's Michael Rutt (1:47.41), who set a New England record.
