Easthampton police caution about fundraiser
EASTHAMPTON - The Easthampton Police Association is not working with a regional organization on a fundraising campaign and advises residents that money they donate might not stay local.
Detective Sgt. Mark Popielarczyk said the department has received several calls from businesses who have been contacted by the New England Narcotic Officers Association. The marketing firm conducting the fundraising campaign claims that the association is working in conjunction with Easthampton police, which isn't true.
Popielarczyk said the organization is legitimate and people can choose to donate, though he warns that the money may not stay local, as the group contends.
"It's a legitimate organization but we're not affiliated with them," he said.
