AMHERST — Paving on four Amherst streets by Warner Brothers LLC is beginning Friday, the start of $2.75 million in projects getting underway now that asphalt plants are open for the season.

From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., construction crews will put down the first layer of pavement on North Hadley Road, from Lincoln to Sunset avenues, on Woodside Avenue, from Northampton to Hitchcock roads, the entire length of Salem Street and on Market Hill Road, from Flat Hills Road to the Shutesbury town line

All four roads will be closed to through traffic during the work, though people will be able to get to their homes and school buses will be able to access the streets.

Other projects are also ready, with Town Manager Paul Bockelman providing a list that includes all of Bellview Circle, Cottage Street from Chestnut Street to Morrow Lane, Edgehill Place from Logtown Road to the end, Farmington Road from Applewood Lane to Pondview Drive, North Pleasant Street from McClellan to Triangle Streets, all of Oak Knoll Street, Old Farm Road from Pine Grove to Crossbrook Avenue, Stony Hill Road from the eyebrow at 83 Stony Hill to the end and all of Thistle Lane.

In addition, Heatherstone Road from Pelham Road to Aubinwood Road will be paved, though there is still ongoing discussion with residents about removing the landscaped traffic island.

Also, Rolling Ridge Road will be repaved to its end, though this may be delayed due to necessary work on water lines.

The town projects come as the state is planning to resurface 3.2 miles of Route 116 in Amherst and Hadley, extending south from the intersection of Route 116 and Meadow Street to Route 9. Work includes milling and resurfacing, rebuilding the road and cleaning drainage structures, as well as upgrades to guardrail and shoulder repairs.
