A desperate late-game surge by UMass surge came up short as the Minutemen fell 77-72 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Boardwalk Hall. UMass finished its season at 12-20 -- its first 20-loss season since 1982-83.

Eagles hold off UMass in Hockey East

CHESTNUT HILL - It took two minutes in the second period for everything to fall apart Friday night for the University of Massachusetts in the first game of its Hockey East quarterfinal series at Boston College.

Three minutes after a goal by Minuteman T.J. Syner tied the game 2-2, the Eagles scored three goals in two minutes, propelling them to a 6-5 win.

UMass baseball team loses season opener

The University of Massachusetts baseball team led after five innings in its season opener Friday before Oklahoma State rallied for a 5-3 win in Stillwater, Okla.

Brian Baudinet put the Minutemen (0-1) ahead with a home run to right field on the second pitch of the game.

Dacko out as Minutewoman coach

AMHERST - The University of Massachusetts will not renew the contract of women's basketball head coach Marnie Dacko, ending her eight-year tenure which produced a losing record.

Athletic director John McCutcheon announced the decision Monday.

Ex-UMass running back dies at 46

Former University of Massachusetts standout football player Garry Pearson died Tuesday at age 46.

Pearson, was a two-time All-American running back (1981-82) and left Amherst as the UMass career leader in rushing yards (3,859 yards) and rushing touchdowns (35), marks that stood for 10 years.
