NORTHAMPTON — The police and fire departments responded to a Dumpster fire at 54 Industrial Drive late Friday afternoon which is not considered suspicious.
According to police, the fire started around 3:45 p.m. at the Valley Area Transit Co.
Police said investigators believe a construction crew fixing the neighboring roof ignited the flames when sparks from grinding metal fell into the Dumpster they had set up about two feet below. It was full of cardboard and roofing materials.
According to police, the fire was extinguished about eight minutes after fire officials arrived.
Police said there was a lot of smoke, but no damage to the building.
