Something I truly enjoy is being able to experience the wide array of events our area offers while working as a photographer. This week was no exception, since I was able to listen to a talk by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., which was part of Smith College's Presidential Colloquium. Before his talk began, excerpts form Gates' miniseries "Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise" played on a large screen in Weinstein Auditorium. While watching it, I snapped this photo of him from the projection screen. The fast shutter speed I used captured only a portion of the wave of projected light, rendering this colorful image. It reminds me of images artists produced during the turbulent, psychedelic 1960's.

This week was no exception, since I got to listen to a talk by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., which was part of Smith College’s Presidential Colloquium.
