EASTHAMPTON – An early-morning fire in a garage caused $40,000 in damages, the Easthampton Fire Department said.

Firefighters received the call at 2:21 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release. Fire crews found fire and smoke coming from a detached garage at the rear of a property at 142 West St.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in under 10 minutes, but stayed on the scene to overhaul the structure for another hour, fire officials said. No one was injured.

The fire was caused by a faulty extension cord that ignited combustible materials near the cord and the outlet it was plugged into, fire officials said. The fire caused around $40,000 in damages to the structure and the contents inside, fire officials said.

An investigation is being conducted by Easthampton Police and Fire Departments.
