The Frontier Regional boys basketball team lost to Wahconah, 67-52, at the Mullins Center during the Pioneer Valley Tip-off Classic on Saturday.

It was an excellent early season test for the Redhawks.

“I think they are a physical team,” Frontier coach Josh Morse said. “They rebound well. They are disciplined. Those are the kinds of teams you want to play, certainly. I thought it was a pretty well-played game for the most part.”

The Warriors’ lead grew after each quarter before pulling away in the final frame. Max Millette scored 22 points with 11 rebounds for the Redhawks (1-1). Millette is now eight points away from 1,000 for his career. Frontier travels to Athol on Monday.

“They just executed better than us,” Morse said. “We’ve got to learn to turn it around. We have one day off. That’s the name of his game. Our challenge is is build off it. The best team’s face a little adversity. How do you respond?”

Rowan Modestow and Alex Ellis each had eight points. Ty Skroski and Garrett Dredge both chipped in with seven points.

“We got some guys going that we wanted to,” Morse said. “Good teams are well-balanced.

Narragansett 67, Mahar 41 โ€“ The Senators couldn’t stay with the Warriors in Baldwinville on Saturday.

Mahar had a difficult second quarter offensively, allowing the Warriors to pull away. Aydon Davis scored 17 points with five 3-pointers for the Senators. Hunter Brooks added nine points for Mahar.

Hockey

St. Bernard’s 4, Greenfield 2 โ€“ The Green Wave lost their season opener in Fitchburg on Saturday afternoon. After scoring twice in the opening period, Greenfield couldn’t capitalize on its opportunities for the remainder of the game at Wallace Civic Center.

Cooper Smith made 22 saves for Greenfield (0-1). Shaun Baumann scored a goal with an assist. Jack Laurie also scored for Greenfield. Brady Poreda and Anson Prunier notched assists for the Wave.

The Bernardians scored three goals in the first period and added an insurance goal in the second period. The Green Wave host East Longmeadow at Collins-Moylan Arena on Monday at 4:30 in their home opener.
