The search for a new offensive coordinator for the UMass football team seems to be over.

The Minutemen are expected to hire Max Warner to take over the offensive play-calling duties, plus serve as the team’s quarterbacks coach, according to his public Twitter/X account.

UMass’ former OC, Mike Bajakian, was recently introduced as Michigan State’s quarterbacks coach, following one season in Amherst.

Warner was most recently the co-offensive coordinator at Bowling Green from 2022-2024, after three years as the Falcons’ quarterbacks coach from 2019-2021.

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Warner was not brought back by Bowling Green head coach Eddie George, landing in Amherst a year later.

Over the course of Warner’s three seasons as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator, the team scored 25.56 points per game, finishing above .500 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) each year.

In his final season at Bowling Green, Warner helped guide quarterback Connor Bazelak to a year that featured 3,044 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, leading to him earning a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.

Warner has an extensive list of high school coaching experience prior to his days with the Falcons, dating back to 2006, including one year at Virginia Tech as the Hokies’ offensive quality control coach in 2015.

The Minutemen still don’t have a clear Week 1 starter at quarterback on the roster for the upcoming fall, with just three signal-callers on the roster.

Redshirt sophomore Will Perry is the only quarterback with any collegiate playing experience on the roster for UMass currently, appearing in one game against UConn in 2024.

Head coach Joe Harasymiak will have to hope his new offensive coordinator can not only help bring in some quarterback talent out of the transfer portal, but also turn the entire offense around from where it was in 2025.

After finishing the year with the 136th-ranked scoring offense last season, good for last place at the FBS level, the Minutemen will rely on Warner immensely.
