
33 Hawley presents one-woman circus show
Movement artist Shir Livne will bring her one-woman circus show “MOM” to The Workroom at 33 Hawley in Northampton on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m.
The 75-minute show “shines a light on the inner thoughts that we have as potential mothers, stepmothers, bio-moms and daughters,” according to a press release. “What did we expect things to feel like, and how do they actually feel?”
The show combines circus skills, storytelling and pages from teenage journals, and each performance will have a facilitated talkback afterwards.

‘Every Day Is Play’ pop-up exhibit
“Every Day Is Play,” a three-day pop-up exhibition with more than 100 works of art by Dave Rothstein, who died unexpectedly on Nov. 11, 2025, will be on display from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at River Valley Taekwondo. Viewing is available Friday, 6-9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
An internationally renowned sculptor in snow and ice, Rothstein was a frequent participant in the annual Ice Art Festival, but he was better known in his hometown for a vast and varied body of visual art in many media. This exhibition is part of a “Day of Dave” with multiple public events on Jan 31.

Forbes Library seeks artists proposals
Forbes Library in Northampton is looking for proposals from artists who want to show work in its Hosmer Gallery in exhibits between August 2026 and September 2027.
Artists who live in Hampshire, Hampden, Franklin and Berkshire Counties are eligible. According to the artist call, criteria for selection include “technical and artistic quality, a coherent theme, and contribution to an interesting and varied program for the cycle.”
Applications close on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. All applicants will be notified of a decision by Wednesday, April 15.

Documentary screening about welfare
Amherst Cinema will screen the 1975 documentary “Welfare” on Monday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.
The movie, directed by Frederick Wiseman, is a direct look at the complexities of the welfare system and its intersections with housing, unemployment and medical problems.
Both screenings will be introduced by Carolyn Anderson, professor emerita of communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and co-author of “Reality Fictions: The Films of Frederick Wiseman.”
The movie runs 2 hours and 47 minutes.
Tickets to the Monday screening, including fees, are $13.25 for adults and $12.25 for seniors (age 65 and up) and students at amherstcinema.org; tickets to the Saturday screening are one dollar less per category.

Audition for โPippinโ
Little Garden Theater will hold auditions for its August production of the musical “Pippin” on Sunday, March 8, from 3-7 p.m. at Goldenrod Country Inn in Worthington, and on Monday, March 9, from 6-10 p.m., at the LGT Rehearsal Studio in Easthampton.
Callbacks will be on Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. at the LGT Rehearsal Studio.
Auditions are first come, first served.
Actors should prepare a monologue that aligns with the character(s) they’d like to play and should prepare a 32-bar cut of a musical theater song that showcases your voice and performance skills. An accompanist will be provided.
Actors who can’t make the in-person auditions should fill out the audition form and email a video self-tape that fulfills the above requirements to info@goldenrodcountryinn.com, or they can apply through Backstage.com.
The production will take place from Thursday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 30.
All actors will receive an honorarium of at least $300. Limited housing will be available for out-of-town performers.

Pioneer Valley Ballet opens auditions for ‘Cinderella’
Pioneer Valley Ballet is looking for children ages 5 to 11 to take part in its spring production of “Cinderella.” Casting will take place at the PVB Studios in Eastworks in Easthampton on Friday, Feb. 6.
The timeslots for the audition day are: children ages 6 and 7 will audition from 4:30-5:15 p.m.; ages 8 and 9, 5:15-6 p.m.; and ages 10 and 11, 6-6:45 p.m. Children aged 5 are not required to attend.
During each casting timeslot, each age group will learn a few simple dance steps and will be measured for a costume.
The one-time registration fee is $15; the performance fee ranges from $80 to $110 for 5-year-olds and ranges from $160 to $185 for all other children. Performance fees cover rehearsals, theater time, costume rentals, makeup kits and hair kits. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
The production will be on Saturday, May 9 at the Academy of Music in Northampton. Most roles rehearse once a week until the week of the show, which has rehearsals throughout the week of Saturday, May 2 through Saturday, May 9.

Audition for ‘The Laramie Project’
Greenfield Community College Theater is looking for actors and crew members for its production of “The Laramie Project” by Moisรฉs Kaufman.
Auditions will be on Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Sloan Theater at GCC. Callbacks will on Friday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. Auditioning actors will be asked to perform two different monologues from the show, which will be provided.
The show is open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members, though community members will be required to pay a small production fee.
“The Laramie Project” is about the 1998 murder of gay teenager Matthew Shepard.
Rehearsals start Wednesday, Feb. 4. Performances will take place Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 26.
