Northampton, MA – On Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Harry Hosford McColgan left The Party, most likely during an episode of Law and Order. Harry first arrived at The Party on July 2, 1936 and, from the beginning, he applied his winning brand of humor and action to the stage of Haydenville, then New York City and Northampton, with many positive results. Whether it was getting a job at the Chrysler showroom on his third day living in New York, running a small hotel on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, opening Hugo’s Bar and Café, or being the Social Director/Co-Owner of The Hotel Northampton, Harry continually applied his successful blend of Joie de Vivre to every task at hand, usually with a generous garnish of lime. It must surely have been this unique blend of humor and action that convinced Molly McKinnon to join him on the never-ending quest for Good Times and Adventure.
Good Times and Adventure may have included, but were definitely not limited to;
•An Endless Array of “Mint Condition” vehicles that may/may not arrive in one piece at your destination.
•Finding half a dozen nameless people winding down the middle of the night in your kitchen.
•Having intimate knowledge of all Jai Alai Frontons on the East Coast.
And that’s not even touching on Harry’s committed work with The Garden Club!
You may not have heard the assorted stories of his wife, Molly, brother Ed, or sister Beth (North Carolina), but you could still try to catch one of his children, Meagen or Tully (Suzanne), to hear further tea spilled.
Which is not to say that the nieces and nephews Eileen, Sean, Maureen, Matt, Bridget, Mick, Dan, Heidi, Stefan, Baron, Christine, Celine, Kelly(deceased), Brett, or Alexa don’t have their own yarns to spin! Unfortunately, Harry was winding down Party Operations when his grandchildren Kinnon, Taylan and Molly arrived, but the assorted 15 grand nieces and grand nephews probably have a few choice tales to tell. It goes without saying, Harry McColgan had many close and not-so-close friends, who are Far Too Numerous To Mention, and they have Party Stories the younger generation could not convey!
Special Commendations to Jennifer Mattheson for 15 years in the trenches.
Harry Hosford McColgan’s Celebration of Life is on Sunday, February 1st, 1:pm at Look Park’s Garden House. I am SURE all friends and family in attendance will have MANY stories to share about all the times Harry regaled everyone at The Party with his particular blend of humor and action!
