The March 6 Gazette article about the delay in bidding Picture Main Street indicates the city will pay $50,000 to perform test pits to locate Eversource’s recently installed gas lines. It’s standard in the construction industry to document the location of utilities when they are installed. Eversource appears to have failed to complete this necessary documentation. I would think that company should incur this cost and not the city. In addition, why was Eversource allowed to install new gas lines last summer without having prior city review and coordination with the Picture Main Street utility design plans?
