The Granby softball team opened its season with an offensive explosion against Chicopee Comp on Thursday night, walking away with a 22-10 victory.
It only took nine hits for the Rams to put up 22 runs on the night, six of which came from three players. Kiki Gaj went 2-for-4 in the win, tallying a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
Kara White was patient at the plate on Thursday, finishing 2-for-2 with three walks. Sydney Chateauneufย rounded things out by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk of her own.
Meredith Bartosz pitched all six innings of the game for Granby, allowing eight hits while striking out six.
Boys volleyball
Granby 3, Ware 0 โ The Rams swept their first contest of the season, winning 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 over the Indians.
Jake Gagnon led the way with a team-high 13 kills and eight aces in the win, adding on 13 assists, three digs and a block.
Nathan Walsh made his presence known as well, tallying a team-high 17 assists to go along with five kills, four aces, two digs and two blocks.
Belchertown 3, Putnam 0 โ The Orioles also swept their season opener on Thursday, with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 win.
Brian Burns put together nine kills in the victory, with one ace as well. Shea MacLean had similar success, notching six kills and three blocks.
Arda Cayan had all 17 assists for Belchertown, adding on a trio of aces as well.
Baseball
East Longmeadow 2, Belchertown 1 โ The Orioles struggled to find offense in Thursday night’s pitcher’s duel, suffering a tough loss to begin the year.
Ryan Gould did his best to impact the team both on the mound and at the dish, throwing seven innings of two-hit ball. He struck out six and allowed just one earned run, going 1-3 offensively.
Dustin Braid was the only other player to tally a hit for Belchertown, with its lone run of the game coming from a Brennan Real walk being driven in by Joey Minnon.
Girls lacrosse
Westfield 23, Belchertown 7 โ The Orioles struggled defensively to open the year in a loss to the Bombers on Thursday night.
Five different players scored for Belchertown in the loss, led by two multi-goal scorers.
Lilly Tellier and Lia Divin each did their best to match their opponent’s offensive output, both tallying a pair of goals.
