Easthampton, MA – Jean Denise Smith, a beloved mother, family member, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23,2026 at the age of 84. She was surrounded by love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on November 15, 1941, Jean grew up in Northampton, Massachusetts with her sister Lois and brother John. She went to nursing school and became a nurse working in the ER of Holyoke Hospital. She went to marry Herman Smith and they spent over 50 years together and during their retirement lived in Arizona. After Herman passed, she decided to move back to Massachusetts to be with friends and sister.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother who gave endlessly of herself, offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her lessons, laughter, and example will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Jean was known for her work ethic, playing with her grandkids, talking with neighbors and much more. She enjoyed cooking, reading, or time with grandchildren. These small, everyday joys were where she found happiness and where many cherished memories were made.
She is survived by Lois Keefe (sister), John Archambeault (brother), her children Debbie, Wendy and Steve.
A funeral/memorial service will be held at a later date upon family discretion at Saint Mary’s Cemetery (For more information, regarding the funeral/memorial, please contact us at stpsmith@tairaconsulting.com. Cards may be sent to 7 Lazy D drive Easthampton, MA 01027). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cancer Connection Hospice (413-586-1642), in memory of Jean Smith, or that her memory be honored through an act of kindness.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time we had with her. Jean’s love remains a guiding light, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
