Michael J. Florio Jr.

Northampton, MA – Michael J. Florio Jr., 80, of Northampton, peacefully passed away on Tuesday March 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Northampton on November 14, 1945, to the late Michael and Janina “Jean” (Rejniak) Florio Sr.

Mike attended schools in Northampton, beginning his high school journey at Smith Vocational. He later graduated from Northampton High School as part of the class of 1965. After retiring from IUOE Local 98 as Training Director, Michael went on to work with Western MassCosh as the Executive Director, until he later retired, again. He was also a life member of the Northampton Elks Lodge #997.

Mike lived a hands-on life. Whether at car shows, flying his plane, or taking in the valley from a hot air balloon, he was rarely still. He was always working on something or helping someone, giving his time and skill freely and without fanfare. That quiet generosity was the truest measure of who he was. Above all, he valued time with his family, where his steady and kind presence meant everything.

Mike is survived by his long-time partner and love of his life, Nancy Samson of Northampton, his brother Charles “Chuck” Florio and his partner Crystal Childs of Hatfield, his sisters, Arlene Ormond Castelli and her husband Joe Castelli of South Carolina, Starr Florio of South Hadley, his daughters, Erin Samson of Northampton, Brenda Samson of Belchertown, son, Ernie Samson of Hatfield, grandchildren, Noah, Hailey, Chloe, Gavin, and Ellery, his nephew, Willy Childs Florio, and niece, Kellie Ormond, many cousins and dear friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Josh Mizula-Samson.

There will be calling hours on Sunday April 12, 2026, from 11AM – 1PM at DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 DAMON RD., NORTHAMPTON, MA. Burial will be private.
