SOUTH HADLEY — Town Meeting members will vote on 36 articles at back-to-back annual and special Town Meetings on Wednesday, considering topics such as the proposed creation of a $9.8 million Senior Center and amendments to zoning bylaws intended to protect the Fire District 2 water supply.
The special and annual Town Meetings will take place at the South Hadley Town Hall Auditorium, with the special Town Meeting at 6 p.m. and the annual Town Meeting beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The annual Town Meeting warrant contains 28 articles, while the special Town Meeting warrant contains an additional eight articles.
Article 19 on the annual Town Meeting warrant asks if the town should appropriate $9.8 million toward the creation of a new Senior Center at 47 Dayton St. The funding would cover the center’s design, construction, equipment, furnishing, and other improvements.
Articles 22-28 concern planning and conservation, and would regulate activities such as stormwater runoff management, earth removal excavation, and other activities concerning water supply safety.
Conversations surrounding the protection of Fire District 2 arose early in the year following the proposed expansion of a sand and gravel pit operation in the Dry Brook Hill area — which hosts the aquifer supplying water to Fire District 2 — by Chicopee Concrete Service. The applicant later withdrew this permit, and has since proposed a residential development in the same area.
The annual Town Meeting and special Town Meeting warrants can be viewed on the South Hadley website.
