South Hadley became the first girls basketball team in western Massachusetts to qualify for the postseason Wednesday.

The Tigers beat Hopkins Academy 64-33 in South Hadley for their 10th win.

Sophie Gatzounas scored 32 points to lead the way.

Bella Earle added nine and Mikhaila Edge had seven for South Hadley (10-0).

Samantha Jenks led Hopkins (7-3) with 16 points.

Smith Academy 45, Mohawk 32 — Trailing 27-14 at halftime, the Warriors opened with three straight baskets to pull within 26-21.

After a turnover, a fourth basket seemed likely until Hannah Rickert raced down court and stole the ball in the middle of a layup attempt. Rickert brought the possession the other way and zipped a pass to Olivia Cavanaugh in the corner for a momentum-swinging 3-pointer.

Rickert finished with seven points and 11 rebounds. Cavanaugh had nine points on three 3s, while Vanessa Skawski had a career-high 12 points along with 10 rebounds.

Chicopee Comp 54, Northampton 48 — Freshman Sydney Lewandowski gave the Blue Devils a spark with all seven of her points in the fourth quarter. Hamp (8-2) closed within one possession with 1:27 left but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Lauraine Joensen had 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Megan McCarthy had 10 points and 13 boards for Hamp.

Commerce 52, Smith Vocational 25 — Stephanie Start had 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Sydney Cyr added eight as the Vikings (5-6) fell on the road.

Start is 21 points shy of 1,000.

Granby 46, Frontier Regional 33 — Kaeleigh Croteau hit six 3s and scored 20 points in a home win for the Rams.

Nora Young added 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for Granby (5-4).

Mallory Beauregard had 10 points and led the team’s defensive effort.

Marie Diemand led Frontier (3-6) with 11 points.

Palmer 37, Easthampton 33 — Andi Hall scored 16 points, but the Eagles (5-5) dropped to .500 on the season.

Agawam 49, Amherst 26 — Erin Klaes scored 15 points with eight made free throws, but the Hurricanes (1-9) lost their ninth straight game.

Boys basketball

Agawam 85, Belchertown 59 — Mitch Medina scored 24 points, but the Orioles lost at home.

Collin Laramee added eight points for Belchertown (0-9, 0-4 Suburban).

Mohawk 53, Smith Academy 50 — Jack Zigmont had 12 points in a road loss.

Jack Hession added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Falcons (1-9, 0-8 Hampshire).

Matt Bouley also scored 10 points, while Peter Leuschner grabbed 11 boards.

Boys ice hockey

Easthampton 5, Mt. Everett 1 — Mick Skowronek scored twice and had two assists in a home win.

CJ Tenczar also found the net twice for the Eagles (3-7-1).

Matt Grimaldi had two assists for Easthampton.

Garren Fugiel scored, and Dillan Wilson and Mike McColgan added assists.

Nate Barnes made 11 saves.

Longmeadow 5, Amherst 1 — Niccolo Cardaropoli scored, and Max Hopley had an assist at Orr Rink.

The Hurricanes (6-3-1) lost for the first time since Dec. 23.
