A change in the lineup for the Northampton girls basketball team sparked a 65-43 win over Longmeadow Monday on the road.

Syd Lewandowski and Anna Kerwood started for the Blue Devils (14-6, 4-4 Valley League) and their collective effort on defense and the press helped Hamp get an early lead.

“We weren’t playing very well,” Northampton coach Perry Messer said. “We needed to shake things up.”

Lauraine Joensen scored 24 points with 17 rebounds while Megan McCarthy had 10 points with 15 rebounds.

Amanda Mieczkowski’s steady play at point guard guided Hamp’s offense, she had 11 points and nine assists.

Coming off the bench, Emma Tanner scored 14 points with three 3-pointers.

South Hadley 68, Palmer 23 — Sophie Gatzounas had 24 points, and the Tigers moved within one win of an undefeated regular season.

They’ll visit Chicopee Comp at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Alexa Blaney scored 11, and Mikhaila Edge added 10 points for South Hadley (19-0, 8-0 Central).

Southwick 44, Smith Academy 35 — Emma Kelly scored six points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a home loss for the Falcons.
