GREENFIELD — A 35-year-old Florence woman was arrested in Greenfield on Saturday afternoon after police say she was stopped while driving drunk with her 8-year-old daughter in the passenger seat.
Kristen Marie Sampson of Florence Road was arraigned Tuesday in Greenfield District Court on charges of operating while under the influence of alcohol, child endangerment while operating under the influence, a marked lanes violation and no inspection sticker.
Greenfield Police reported that officer Justin Purinton was on patrol on Leyden Road about 4 p.m. Saturday when he conducted a random query of the vehicle in front of him and saw it had failed inspection in April.
As he initiated a stop with his emergency lights activated, Purinton wrote that the vehicle veered left, crossed the double yellow line, continued a short distance and then pulled over to the right.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Purinton wrote that he detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver, identified as Sampson, told him she drank a little wine earlier in the day but did not feel drunk, according to the report. However, Purinton noted in the report that her eyes were glassy and bloodshot and she was slurring her words slightly.
Sampson failed a series of field sobriety tests, according to the report, and a preliminary breath test showed a result of 0.105 percent blood alcohol content. The limit to drive legally in Massachusetts is .08 percent.
She was placed under arrest and her 8-year-old daughter was brought to her grandparents’ house in Plymouth by the state Department of Children and Families.
Sampson’s blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.09 percent during booking, according to the report, and bail was set at $5,000.
Her bail was set at $750 following her arraignment Tuesday and she was ordered to abstain from alcohol with screens. She is due back in court July 6 for a pretrial conference.
