EASTHAMPTON — A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly pressed a knife against a gas station clerk’s throat and stole money from a cash register.

The juvenile was charged with armed robbery while masked and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60.

Police Chief Robert Alberti said the department responded to an armed robbery call at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday at the 7-Eleven store at 97 Union Street.

“Upon further investigation, it was gleaned that the male suspect entered the store, walked up behind the clerk, grabbed her around the neck from behind and pressed a knife against her throat,” Alberti wrote on Facebook. “The suspect then walked the clerk behind the counter, opened the register and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Officer Andrew Beaulieu and the department’s police dog, Gino, located the suspect a short time later on Cottage Street, according to police.
