Former UMass tennis coach Judy Dixon is staying sharp.

Dixon captured the women’s 70-plus singles and doubles titles at the Level 1 USTA National Women’s Hard Court Championships aerlier this month in La Jolla, Calif.

As the No. 1 seed in the singles bracket, Dixon defeated No. 5 Barabra Hubbard, 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

She and doubles partner Victoria McEvoy were the No. 2 seed in the doubles draw. They beat Kathy Barnes and Carol Gay 6-3, 7-6 (2) in the final.

After her victories, Dixon is ranked eighth in the world in the 70-plus women’s category by the International Tennis Federation. She’s been selected to the U.S. team that will play in the World Team Championships in Mallorca, Spain, in October.

Dixon was the tennis coach at UMass for 25 years. She coached the women’s team from 1993-2017 and the men’s team from 1993-2001 before the program was cut.
