The Mount Everett girls basketball team held Gateway Regional scoreless in the first quarter en route to a 51-20 victory in the second round of the Western Massachusetts Division 4 Tournament, Tuesday in Sheffield.

The Fourth-seeded Mounties (14-7) advanced and will host No. 5 Renaissance (21-0) on Friday.

No. 13 Gateway finished the season 14-7.

Lily Waters led the Gators with eight points. Becca Herman added six.

Gwendolyn Carpenter finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

โ€œSheโ€™s one of the best point guards Iโ€™ve seen in a long time,โ€ Gateway coach Eli Robbins said of the Everett senior. โ€œSheโ€™s got a very balanced game. She can kill you with her outside shot. Sheโ€™s real tough to play against.โ€

The Gators shot 2 of 16 from the floor in the first half.
