As a resident of Chesterfield I was totally appalled when I read that a 77-year-old woman had to defend herself with knives against someone trying to break into her home. She must have been terrified.

More appalling is the fact that a judge would release the perpetrator on just a $1,000 bail. Many charges have been lodged against him, but more importantly, he has a past history and is a felon. Striking a law enforcement officer is a felonious act.

Time to speak out to our legislators about why bails are set so low. As far as GPS monitoring goes, I find this to be a joke. Many repeat offenders just rip them off. Iโ€™m sure in the back of this womanโ€™s mind is the fear of his coming back.

Where is the justice?
