Owen Shelffo’s seventh-inning sacrifice fly scored Dillon Diemand with the go-ahead run, and Matt Sullivan escaped a jam to preserve Northampton’s 2-1 win over Belchertown in Western Mass Summer Baseball League Senior Division action, Monday at Arcanum Field.
Diemand singled to right and took second on interference. He stole third then scored on Shelffo’s one-out sacrifice.
Sullivan walked three in the bottom of the seventh but Northampton held on to improve to 2-1 on the season. Sullivan threw three hitless innings in relief of Seth Finnessy (four innings, four hits allowed).
Hamp took a 1-0 lead in the first. Leadoff hitter Jackson Heath (2-for-4) singled, Colin Ferrara (2-for-4) singled and Noah Brink walked to load the bases. Jack Diggins’ grounder scored Heath.
Belchertown (0-3) answered with a run in the first. JB Mills singled and took second on Josh White’s single. Chase Kupinsky followed with a two-out single to score Mills.
White had two of Belchertown’s four hits.
Nate Mills, Zach Bonet and Ty Gladu walked in the seventh as Belchertown threatened.
Mohawk 11, Northampton 2 — Northampton had six hits but fell behind 9-0 after five innings as it fell in Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle action, Monday at Florence Field.
