The Belchertown boys golf team’s season came to an end Monday at the MIAA State Division 2 Championship at Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown.

Belchertown finished in 12th place out of 13 teams with a score of 343.

Westwood won the state title with a 312. North Andover was two strokes back followed by Duxbury (317) and Nauset (318).

Belchertown junior Ryan Chrabascz shot a 10-over-par 82 to pace the Orioles.

“I started off pretty bad,” said Chrabascz. “Then I was able to calm down.”

Although the Orioles did not get the result they wanted at the championship, coach David Wright was still proud of his team.

“They enjoy competition,” said Wright. “The ups and the downs, we just have to learn and come back better.”

The Orioles have the comeback part down. Last year, they returned to the state tournament after placing second at the Western Massachusetts Tournament. At states, they were last in 12th place.

This year, they won Western Mass. and improved by one position at states.

“It was an honor to be playing in the championship,” said Chrabascz. “It will help me become better next year.”

Andrew O’Leary, of Catholic Memorial, won the individual title with a 1-under 71. Davis Chatfield, of Bishop Feehan, William Frodigh, of Westfield, and Alex Jamieson, of Duxbury, tied for second with 74s.

Frontier Regional eighth-grader Mike Corduff shot a 91 on the 5,850-yard course.

Chrabascz was 11 shots back from first.

“Our main goal was to win the Western Mass. championship, and we did that,” said Chrabascz. “I’m proud of this team.”

Justin Bourque added an 83 for Belchertown. Also factoring into the scoring were Frankie Murray (86) and Aidan Dupont (92). Jonathan Betcha (101) and Dave Fredenburgh (111) also played.

It was the final match for Belchertown seniors Bourque, Dupont, Murray and Zachary Reidy.
