AMHERST — U.S. Rep. James McGovern will be part of a discussion on addressing hunger that will be held at the Amherst Survival Center next week.

The free two-hour event, which will focus on ways to improve access to healthy food on an individual basis and at the state and federal policy levels, begins 6:30 p.m. at the 138 Sunderland Road.

The community conversation titled “Fighting Hunger in our Kitchens and in our Congress” also features WRSI radio personality Monte Belmonte, who will lead an annual anti-hunger march next month that raised $150,000 for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts last year, and cookbook author Leanne Brown, who donated copies of her “Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4/Day” to the center last year.

The evening is co-sponsored by UMass School of Public Policy and the Food Bank.

Mindy Domb, executive director of the survival center, said she hopes people will be inspired. “We are so excited to be partnering with the UMass School of Public Policy and the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts to host Leanne and this incredible trio of hunger advocates,” she said.
