PLAINFIELD — The Plainfield Select Board invites residents to an informational meeting on Monday to discus the potential opening of a marijuana cultivation facility in town.
Representatives from Mass Medi-Spa, a company that owns two medical marijuana dispensary operations, in Nantucket and Norwell, will explain the facility they hope to open in town and answer questions from residents.
“They are still very early on in the process; they haven’t even filed permits yet,” Select Board member Winton Pitcoff said. “This is just a chance for folks to come and meet them. They can meet the community and explain what it is they will be doing.”
Pitcoff said the state still needs to approve Mass Medi-Spa’s registration application, after which all of the required town permitting processes will have to be met.
Mass Medi-Spa has indicated a willingness to enter into a Host Community Benefit Agreement with Plainfield, which would commit the company to financial and performance responsibilities agreed upon by the town.
A draft of this agreement is available on the town’s website for residents who would like to review it prior to the meeting.
This draft has not been formalized, as the Select Board is seeking input from residents before doing so.
On Feb. 8, Christopher Roos, owner of Mass Medi-Spa, purchased at auction an 80-acre property at 27 Broom St., formerly known as Back Acres Farm.
The stated intention at the time of purchase was to operate a marijuana cultivation facility, a solar farm or both.
“My understanding is that solar is not something that they are planning right now,” Pitcoff said.
Monday’s meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.
Residents who have questions in advance, or who will be unable to attend but have questions that they would like to submit, can contact Winton Pitcoff at winton@pitcoff.com or 634-5728.
