The Kamala Harris campaign being compressed to about 100 days is not a detriment, it is an improvement. Campaigns lasting for two years can not gather or hold the attention of us voters, but a 90-day campaign can and must be exciting.

Primaries and debates would be important, instead of mostly theatrical rituals. I believe that all other democracies have campaigns lasting a few weeks, and successfully choose leaders. It is comically absurd that a person can attain special status by announcing a candidacy 730 days before the election.

Great harm also can be done by hypocritical legislators refusing to act on nominations and legislation because it is an election year. I think a party might gain an advantage by concentrating its election efforts into August through November. Somewhat like the Muhammed Ali “rope-a-dope” strategy.
