Damon Wesley just needed to settle in.
After the Granby Thunder pitcher allowed four runs to Northampton in the first inning of the Western Mass Mickey Mantle Championship game, he locked it down for the next six innings in an 11-4 win at Headmaster Field in Deerfield.
Wesley struck out 14 total batters and allowed five hits in a complete game, just three over the final six innings.
Granby didn’t blink at a 4-0 deficit after one inning.
“We just had a terrible inning,” Granby coach John White said. “We bounced right back.”
The Thunder scored four runs in the second to tie the game then tacked two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Tyler Perrault was 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Both hits came with two outs.
Allen Lesik hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Sam white was 1-for-2 but reached base four times, scored three runs and drove in a run.
Josh White (2-for-4) scored two runs.
Jack Diggins was 2-for-4 for Northampton.
Granby got into the championship game by walking off against Longmeadow in the semifinals Saturday.
Josh White drove in Jack Mankowsky with one out in the seventh to get the 4-3 win for Granby.
Mankowsky led off the inning with a walk then went to second on a Chase Kupinsky single. Lesik reached on an error to load the bases with no outs.
Lesik also started the game and threw five innings, while Carter Matthews pitched in relief.
Northampton beat Mohawk 2-0 in the semifinals Saturday.
Ethan Salem threw a shutout for Hamp, striking out eight with just three hits and five walks allowed.
Jake Brittain hit a single and a double and scored both Northampton runs.
John Carey and Jarrett Smith had RBIs.
Noah Brink, Kavan Powers and Diggins added hits.
