NORTHAMPTON — Heavy winds during Tuesday night’s severe thunderstorms brought down branches across Northampton, knocking out power lines and causing a fire in the process.

The fire took place at 7 Pine St. in Florence, when the electrical head where power wires enter the house caught fire. Nobody was injured in the small blaze, Fire Chief Duane Nichols said.

“We believe it was probably related to the storm last night,” Nichols said.

Elsewhere, a pole caught fire on South Main Street, and trees also came down on Sylvester Road, Pine Street and Ryan Road, Nichols confirmed.

Nichols said National Grid was on the scene, and was quickly able to cut power to the affected areas.

“We had a lot of one- and two-customer outages throughout the night,” Frank Poirot, a spokesman for Eversource, said about the storm’s effects in Northampton.
