SUNDERLAND — Deerfield and Sunderland are among the towns which have been awarded a state grant to help upgrade aging computers.

More than 50 communities received the grants to help them upgrade and improve information technology infrastructure, including computer hardware and software.

Deerfield was awarded $45,000 to install a high-speed link between the town offices and the South County Senior Center. The town will also build a secure data center to store important information.

“I am very pleased that the Baker-Polito administration awarded the Town of Sunderland $24,534 from the Community Compact IT Grant Program,” said state Rep. Stephen Kulik, D-Worthington. “This grant money will go a long way in helping bring the town into the 21st century by upgrading the outdated and aging computer network, making government more efficient and more innovative.”

Sunderland will use the grant for infrastructure upgrades, which have been recommended by the Division of Local Services, a state-run organization that works to streamline government processes and save taxpayers money.
