In the world coming over the horizon (were we to avert calamity), there will be no such thing as a jail. It will be like looking at a smoky old photo of the dank, squalid dungeons of old.
In any society that calls herself “democratic,” the existence of a jail is a violation of the dignity of all human beings as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
A jail is a cage. Society has designed a custom by which she uses the cage to punish any individual who doesn’t play by the rules. For sure, the cage is an evolutionary advancement from the days in which humans were burned at the stake. But still there are problems embedded in the words “punish” and “rules.”
The one thing that we can be sure that punishment does is that it sows the seeds of a deep resentment in the hearts of its victims. Resentments grow and fester and eventually come back upon the society as violence, hyper-vigilance, sickness, misery, the stifling of human development, deep social unrest and by extension casts a pall upon the overall quality of life for the citizens. Thus, what we do to alleviate human suffering actually creates greater human suffering.
The word “rules” is also problematic. Who makes the rules? Who enforces the rules? And who are those who must submit without a peep? It is often the case that society herself, through her leadership, is not playing by the rules.
The rules are set in the DNA of every human: Liberté, égalité, fraternité! These three words symbolize a rarely encountered but oft-perverted concept: Democracy!
In the end, the thieves, our predatory class, in their greed create a world in which they must use increasing levels of state violence and propaganda to keep their victims (the majority) from finally awakening to their victimhood and overrunning the heavily-fortified domains of state dominance.
In this sad world, the people sent to Washington to represent the interests of the citizens have come to require heavy security and surveillance to keep them safe from the resentment and hatred of those very citizens.
In the world coming over the horizon (averting calamity), there are no jails, and the elected representatives of the people mingle freely among the people and are beloved by the people.
If we lived in a world in which these two social conditions prevailed, society would be well on her way to Peace on Earth.
Peace!
