Fringed Polygala
Rail Trail, Station Road, Amherst
Anne E. Ely, South Hadley
There are many interesting things to see and photograph along the Rail Trail off Station Road in South Amherst, and if one takes one of the side trails there are even more.
Recently I turned onto one of these, the KC trail, and was glad I did. I came across several patches of the beautiful little wild flower Fringed Polygala, sometimes called Babes in the Woods or Gaywings. These little beauties are usually around four or so inches high, thus it meant getting down on my knees and backing up enough so I could use my medium length telephoto lens on my tripod mounted DSLR camera.
