HADLEY — For the second time in less than a week, a boater on the Connecticut River has found a body, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Later Wednesday, authorities identified the man discovered in the Connecticut River Friday evening as Wasique Hasan, 21, a University of Massachusetts student from Easthampton.

No foul play is suspected in his case. Hasan had been reported missing by his family on Dec. 30 and his name was then entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.

Hasan’s body was found in the river Friday near the Rainbow Beach area in Northampton.

Meanwhile, investigators said a woman kayaking in Connecticut River around noon Wednesday spotted a body along the shoreline off River Drive in Hadley.

The body was that of a man, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the person’s identity, approximate age, and the cause of death.

Authorities do not believe the two deaths are connected.

After the woman dialed 911, Hadley police and firefighters responded to the scene, as did officers from the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
