BRIDGE STREET SCHOOL BENEFIT: CMT Music Award-nominated musician Aaron Lewis will headline a concert in August as a benefit for the Bridge Street School’s library.

The benefit concert is the fifth annual event from the It Takes a Community Foundation and will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Pines Theatre in  Look Park. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Bridge Street School Library Renovation project, which is scheduled to begin this summer, according to a press release from the foundation.

Lewis, who rose to fame as the front man of Springfield hard rock band Staind, released his solo country debut, an EP called “Town Line,” in 2011. On Friday, Lewis announced his second full-length record, “Sinner,” which will be released in September and follows 2012’s “The Road.”

RIVER CELEBRATION: The Connecticut River Watershed Council  will sponsor its annual River Celebration in South Hadley on Saturday, offering river tours, free food (including ice cream) and live music.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. and are expected to draw a crowd of more than 175. The event will also feature naturalist Laurie Sanders, who will speak about the river’s influence on the area’s history.

The council, an organization that works to protect the Connecticut River Watershed and its wildlife, holds this event every year as a celebration of the river’s importance to local life.

“There are so many reasons to celebrate the Connecticut River,” Andrew Fisk, executive director of the watershed council, said in a press release. “We love getting to know the many people who cherish New England’s largest river. It’s wonderful to gather and enjoy our rivers together.”
