Golf Player of the Year:
Evan Rutherford, senior, Amherst Regional
Won the Division 1 Western Massachusetts individual championship, the first in Amherst Regional history, after shooting an 80 at Southampton Country Club. Helped the Hurricanes finish third at WMass. Placed 21st at the Division 1 state championships. Led the Hurricanes to a 15-1 record and went undefeated in match play.
“A couple of years ago his distance jumped out. He was hitting it farther than anyone I know. Evan, beyond the fact that he won all of his matches and consistently would shoot in the high 30s for nine holes, was a real role model, he was a calming presence. He often practiced with the younger players. He never made it seem like he was a senior and didn’t want to hang out with those guys.
