DEERFIELD — A Turners Falls woman police allege stole more than $27,000 from an elderly woman under her care faces two larceny charges.
Bette Rabbitt, 24, worked as a caregiver for a 71-year-old woman in Deerfield and is accused of removing $27,874 from the woman’s bank account through ATM transactions between November 2015 and January 2016.
Rabbitt was arraigned Wednesday in Franklin County Superior Court on two charges of larceny of over $250 from a person 60 years or older or disabled. She pleaded innocent to both charges.
Deerfield Police Officer Adam Sokoloski said the elderly woman’s son contacted Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. after noticing money missing from his mother’s accounts. Police identified Rabbitt as a suspect, and Rabbitt reportedly confessed to him during an interview, Sokoloski said.
The case was turned over to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, and Rabbitt was indicted by a grand jury.
She was released on personal recognizance on the condition she stay away from the alleged victim.
