GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Community College Foundation began its annual fund campaign with a goal of $825,000 and, with the help of 986 business and individual donors, the foundation announced Friday that it surpassed its goal, raising $936,661.

According to the foundation’s website, the money will be used to support scholarships, the college’s endowment, professional development of faculty and staff, the campus library, the Women in Transition Program that offers resources and support to female students, and programs that might otherwise “become victims of state budget cuts.”

GCC President Robert L Pura expressed his appreciation in a press release.

“Once again, this community has opened the doors to a better life for all who are willing to work hard to achieve it,” he said. “This community has modeled for a nation its support for making the American Dream more than just a dream. Lives will change for the better as a result of this amazing campaign.”

According to the release, the campaign was led by co-chairs Rich Fahey of Greenfield and his daughter-in-law Nicole Fahey of Turners Falls. More than 75 volunteers worked to solicit donations. Money was also raised at several events such as GCC Day at Mike’s Maze in Sunderland and the GCC Turkey Run, held on campus.

“What we are doing in support of GCC is helping keep the doors open for all who come to the college to better themselves,” Rich Fahey said. “Many generations into the future will continue to benefit from our work today.”
