NORTHAMPTON — National Weather Service meteorologists have issued winter weather advisories for Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties.
In an advisory posted early Monday, meteorologists predicted that snow and sleet accumulations for Franklin County, and western Hampshire and Hampden counties, could reach 1 to 4 inches. One-tenth of an inch of ice could also accumulate in higher elevations, the service reports.
The advisory states that “heavier” sleet and snow could develop between 5 and 8 p.m., potentially causing trouble for the evening commute.
For eastern Hampshire and Hampden counties, including Northampton and Amherst, the weather service predicts sleet, some snow and some freezing rain with accumulation up to 1 inch and a trace amount of ice.
The heavier precipitation was predicted to develop between 5 and 8 p.m., the service said.
Winds between 15 and 25 mph — with gusts reaching 45 mph — were also possible for all of Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties, according to the weather service.
The advisories were due to expire at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
