Sam Shelffo hit an RBI double, but Northampton Mickey Mantle couldn’t muster enough runs to take down Palmer in the Western Mass. Baseball Championship on Saturday in Deerfield.

Matt Bouley also hit a double and scored a run, while Nick Heafey had a double.

Zac Brittain started the game on the mound and struck out six in six innings, allowing just two runs.

John Carey and Christian Hodgson hit singles, while Ian McNamara had a hit and scored a run.

In the semifinals, RJ Safron threw a complete game and allowed just one run, striking out four.

Carey had an RBI and scored a run, while Hodgson had a hit and an RBI.

Cal Ripken

Franklin 7, Hadley 6; Hadley 9, Bethel, Connecticut 1 — The 11-and-under all-stars from Hadley are still alive in the Cal Ripken New England Regional after splitting two games over the weekend in Hebron, Connecticut.

Saturday’s loss came in walk-off fashion.

Franklin’s Ben Jarosz hit a one-out double to score Justin Allen and Jason Grant in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hadley scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

Bobby Trigilio led off with a single, then Ryan Schneier walked and Marshall Ingram reached on an error to score Trigilio.

James Aas walked to load the bases.

Cole Boisvert hit the ball back to the pitcher, who got Schneider out at the plate, but the catcher attempted to throw out Boisvert at first and threw it high, scoring two runs.

Hadley avoided elimination with an offensive explosion Sunday against the hosts, Bethel, Connecticut.

Four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Hadley a cushion.

Boisvert opened the inning by reaching on an error.

Trigilio, Patrick Fitzgibbon and Luke Stoneham went back-to-back-to-back with hits, then Cody West and Marshal Ingram drove in the runs.

Ryan Schneider pitched six innings with four strikeouts to get the win.

The team’s next game is 8 p.m. Monday in Hebron against Cranston, Rhode Island, which defeated Dover, New Hampshire, and lost to Brookfield, Connecticut.

12U Southwick Sizzler — Northampton finished as the runner up, losing the championship game 14-5 to Connecticut Selects on Sunday.

Colin Larson had two hits, and Dominic Badorini and Dallas Elliott each hit RBI doubles.

Northampton beat the Westfield Wizards 10-5 on Sunday behind a grand slam from Elliott.

Larson slapped three hits, and Owen Hunter added a two-run single.

Ben Gottlieb stole two bases and hit an RBI single.

Elliott and Ben Slezieski combined for a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Saturday. Elliott pitched four innings, and Sledzieski threw two.

Quinn McDonald hit a solo homer.
