Trailing by two with 9 minutes, 14 seconds left, Jeff Trainor scored twice and Chris Connolly added one as the UMass men’s lacrosse team rallied for a 10-9 win over Drexel, at Garber Field, Saturday.
Trainor made it 9-8 with 8:20 left and Connolly tied the game with 7:04 left. Kevin Tobin assisted both goals.
Trainor netted the winner unassisted with 5:58 left.
Connolly finished with four goals, while Charlie O’Brien had a pair for UMass (7-3, 1-0 CAA).
Amherst 23, Middlebury 12 — Matt Solberg (two assist) and Jon Coffey each had five goals as the Mammoths (9-0, 4-0 NESCAC) rolled at home on Saturday.
UMass 11, Saint Joseph’s 8 — The Minutewomen (9-3, 4-0 Atlantic 10) overcame a 5-2 deficit in the first half, then scored four of the final five goals to win at Garber Field, Sunday.
Kiley Anderson broke a 7-7 tie with 21:41 left and Kaitlyn Cerasi made it a two-goal game with 19:43 left.
After the Hawks pulled within one, Cassidy Doster made it 10-8 with 11:35 remaining and Kelly Marra added an insurance tally with 5:58 to go.
Wesleyan 11, Amherst 9 — Isabelle Sennett, Becky Kendall and Hannah Fox each scored twice, but the Mammoths (6-2, 2-2 NESCAC) fell on the road, Saturday.
MIT 18, Mount Holyoke 6 — Abby Baldwin (Florence) scored three goals, while Deyscha Smith added two, but the Lyons (5-4, 0-2 NEWMAC) fell at home, Saturday.
Wellesley 15, Smith 7 — Emily Biggs (Northampton) scored four goals but the Pioneers (7-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) fell at home, Saturday.
Babson 14, Springfield 10 — Kate Sarnacki (Granby) had two goals and three assists for the visiting Pride (3-6, 0-2 NEWMAC), Saturday.
UMass 8, Saint Louis 5; Saint Louis 7, UMass 4 — Kaitlyn Stavinoha was 4 for 5, while Jackie Kelley, Melissa Garcia and Hannah Bunker (two RBIs) each had two hits as the Minutewomen won Game 1 of the road doubleheader, Sunday.
Erin Stacevicz and Stavinoha each had a pair of hits in Game 2 for UMass (14-14, 3-1 Atlantic 10).
Amherst 5, Wesleyan 0; Amherst 4, Wesleyan 0 — Sage Innerarity was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run, while Lorena Ukanwa struck out five and allowed five hits over seventh innings in Game 1 for Amherst, Saturday. Nicole Trezza had three hits, while Talia Bloxham allowed four hits over seven innings in Game 2 for the Mammoths (12-3, 3-0 NESCAC).
Clark 3, Smith 2 (8); Clark 7, Smith 5 — Eryn Lee finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with three RBIs, but the Pioneers (4-12, 1-5 NEWMAC) were swept on the road, Saturday.
UMass 9, Dayton 2 — Anthony Videtto (two runs, RBI) was 3-for-3 and Nolan Kessinger (two hits) added four RBIs as the Minutemen (5-15, 1-5 Atlantic) picked up their first conference win, Sunday on the road.
Springfield 8, Westfield State 2 — Noah Bleakley (Granby) struck out eight and allowed two hits over five innings as the Pride (9-8) won at home, Sunday.
Ben Arnold (Deerfield) recorded the final three outs for Springfield.
Amherst 3, Wesleyan 2; Wesleyan 4, Amherst 2 — Kai Terada-Herzer and Daniel Qin had a pair of hits in each game as the Mammoths (7-6, 1-2 NESCAC) split a doubleheader at home on Saturday.
New England 17, Becker 2; Becker 3, New England 2 — On Saturday, Hadley’s Evan Delaney (three RBIs, run) was 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Game 1, while Jamie Carey (Amherst) took a tough-luck loss in Game 2. Carey struck out nine, walked none and allowed one earned run on five hits over 6⅔ innings.
UMass 6, Saint Joseph’s 1 — The Minutewomen (11-4, 2-1 Atlantic 10) swept second and third doubles, then quickly won at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles to take the win at home, Sunday.
George Washington 4, UMass 3 — The Minutewomen (10-4, 1-1 Atlantic 10) picked up singles wins from Jodie Lawrence-Taylor (No. 2), Ruth Crawford (No. 3) and Anna Napadiy (No. 4) in the home loss on Saturday.
Amherst 8, Trinity 1 — The Mammoths (6-1) swept singles to cruise to a road win on Sunday.
Mount Holyoke 6, Emerson 3 — The Lyons swept doubles, then took first, second and third singles, Saturday in South Hadley.
Amherst 6, Tufts 3 — William Turchetta clinched the win with a three-set victory at No. 5 singles for the Mammoths.
Black and Gold Invitational — Bridget Deveau set a meet record in the 400-meter hurdles (60.42) as UMass finished second at Bryant’s meet Smithfield, Rhode Island, Saturday. Jade Harris won the 100 hurdles (14.22) and Samantha Thomson won the high jump (5-5).
Tufts Snowflake Classic — Christina Scartelli won the 1,500-meters to pace Amherst to a sixth-place finish, Saturday.
Katy McClellan won javelin (138-1) and Sophia Smith took first in the pole vault (10-2) to pace 10th-place Smith.
Black and Gold Invitational — Kendall Westhoff (10,000; 31:14.76), Joshua Rahn (5,000; 15:22.36) and Mason Lord (pole vault, 14-7¼) each placed first as UMass finished third at Bryant’s meet Smithfield, Rhode Island, Saturday.
Tufts Snowflake Classic — Braxton Schuldt won the 10,000-meters to pace Amherst to a third-place finish, Saturday.
IHSA Zone 1 Region 3 championship — Sara Hearn (intermediate fences), Northampton’s Sarah Etzel (walk-trot-canter), Emma Recchi (open flat) and Daisy Sears (intermediate flat) each placed first as Mount Holyoke finished atop the standings with a score of 371, Saturday at Stoneleigh-Burnham Farm in Greenfield.
UMass (310) was second followed by Smith College (207) and Hampshire (181). Amherst was seventh (134).
IHSA Zone 1 Region 4 championship — Kaitlin Kotfila (Hadley) was first in intermediate fences, while Molly McCutcheon (Northampton) was first in walk-trot-canter for Stonehill, Saturday at Holly Hill Farm in Hanover.
