AMHERST — Three men wearing masks who broke into several rooms at a University of Massachusetts dormitory early Sunday will be arraigned Monday on several charges, including armed burglary, according to UMass police.

Two of the suspects are UMass students. They were arrested as they were allegedly fleeing a Washington Hall room around 4:44 a.m. after police responded to the dormitory for a report of an aggravated burglary in process.

Police said the alleged victims reported three masked men attempting to enter rooms on numerous floors in the hall.

The two students are scheduled to be arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court Monday morning on two counts of armed burglary each, one count each of larceny under $250, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. They were released on $2,000 bail following their arrest.

The third suspect, who is not a student, was arrested Sunday night on the same charges. Police had issued a statement Sunday asking for the public’s help in finding him. UMass spokesman Ed Blaguszewski said police expect him to be arraigned Monday as well.

UMass police referred all questions to Blaguszewski, who would not release the suspects’ names.

At least some of the suspects allegedly had knives in their possession, but police said no one was threatened or physically harmed during the incident.
