Area communities require on-duty firefighters to clear snow from hydrants. Some communities do not require on-duty firefighters to do this as the local fire unions prevent it.
Many hydrants in these communities remain dangerously snow-covered all winter. In addition to the obvious safety factors, homeowner’s insurance concerns come into play in the snow covered hydrant communities.
