NORTHAMPTON — Police apprehended a 22-year-old Needham man Saturday night after he allegedly burst through the window of a woman’s basement apartment and chased her through her condominium’s building while he was naked, according to police.

Northampton Police Chief Jody Kasper reported on the department’s Facebook page Monday afternoon that officers responded to River Run Condominiums at 80 Damon Road at 10:21 p.m. for a report of a naked man chasing after residents. Officers who arrived at the scene found the man, who was covered in blood, being restrained by a resident on the third floor of the building, Kasper said.

Officers spoke to a victim who said she was knitting in her basement apartment when she heard a loud sound from another room, Kasper wrote. While investigating the sound, the victim saw a naked male allegedly running at her window, trying to break the glass with his body, Kasper said.

After a few attempts, the man broke the glass and fell into her room. He then allegedly chased the woman from her apartment.

“Witnesses reported that they saw the woman running up the main interior staircase of the building with the male chasing her,” Kasper wrote.

The man then reportedly tried to force his way into another apartment, and two people inside had to push against their door to keep it shut.

The man was transported to the hospital, Kasper wrote. He will be charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, vandalism and disturbing the peace.
