The Northampton Arcanums tied the game in the seventh inning, but Greenfield walked off in the eighth Monday night in an elimination game of the Western Massachusetts Summer Baseball League playoffs.
Cleanup hitter Jacob Quinn drew a bases loaded walk to score Jorden Whiting with the winning run for second-seeded Greenfield at Veteransโ Memorial Field.
Greenfield worked five walks in the eighth inning.
Fourth-seeded Northampton had the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth, but Jacob Berry got out of the jam to earn the win.
Patrick Serio walked, Noah Brink (hit) reached on an error and Wilson Heath was hit by a pitch in the eighth. Berry ended the inning with two strikeouts sandwiched around a fielderโs choice.
Jackson Heathโs RBI single in the seventh scored Dillon Diemand with the tying run for Northampton (6-5-1).
The Arcanums scored four runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Bennett Kelly had a two-run single that scored Heath and Colin Ferrara (hit). Kelly and Jake Brittain later scored in the inning.
Bryan Baumann walked three times and scored a run out of the leadoff spot for Greenfield. Garrett DeForest also walked three times.
Matt Gardner and Quinn each scored a run in the win. Berry had two hits.
It was the final game for Nate Moggio, Jackson Heath, Diemand, Serio and Brink. The players will not be age eligible next season. The WMass Summer Baseball League is an offshoot of American Legion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Greenfield will play Wednesday at 7 p.m. against No. 5 Easthampton in an elimination game at Vets Field. The winner will advance to the final day of the tournament.
The Arcanums advanced to Mondayโs game with a 12-1 six-inning mercy rule win over Ludlow on Sunday night.
Northampton scored six runs on two hits and one error in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead. It added two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Diemand (1-for-2) had three RBIs, while Wilson Heath was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Serio and Kelly each had two RBIs. Braeden Tudryn (run) was 2-for-2. Jackson Heath (hit, RBI) scored twice.
Seth Finnessey struck out one, walked two and allowed three hits over four innings for the win. Matt Sullivan fanned two and walked one over two innings in relief.
Frontier 8, Northampton 2 โ Frontier stayed atop the Mickey Mantle standings with the win in South Deerfield on Monday.
Frontier improved to 11-3. Northampton fell to 2-10.
