I just had to share this. Yesterday, as I was parked in front of the Easthampton Savings Bank on Main Street in Easthampton, I witnessed what to me was jaw-dropping and very disheartening.

While looking towards the main entrance from the car. I noticed a neatly dressed woman approaching the heavy glass doors. She was possibly in her 30s and was carrying a notebook. At the same time, another woman, possibly in her 80s, was exiting the bank through the second set of glass doors. I think you already know where this is going, and yes, you’re right.

I couldn’t believe it! Here was this older woman, pushing open both sets of heavy doors while the young lady stepped back and watched.

And here’s the disheartening part of this story. Not only did she not lift a finger to help this elderly woman, by opening at least one set of the doors, but she slipped in behind her as she opened the second. I don’t believe she even said thank you or acknowledged her.

What got me was that this encounter involved two women, not a man and a woman. What a difference a generation can make. I guess the Baby Boomers must have been one of the first generations to drop the ball on teaching their kids love and respect. I know I’m guilty. Fortunately my ex wasn’t.
