BELCHERTOWN — A South Hadley man denied pulling a large chunk of hair off a woman’s head before backing into her car during an alleged argument Saturday.

Connor R. Williams, 22, pleaded not guilty in Eastern Hampshire District Court Monday afternoon.

Williams is charged with assault and battery of a family member, assault, and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

During a heated argument sometime Saturday, Williams threw a food container and yogurt at the woman, according to court documents.

As the argument escalated, Williams lunged at the women and when she fled the house, grabbed her by the back of the head and pulled out a large chunk of hair, according to the documents.

When leaving the residence, Williams allegedly hit the woman’s car, causing damage to the entire drivers side.

The woman appeared in court Monday before Williams’ arraignment to request a restraining order, which the judge granted.

Escorted out of the courtroom still wearing handcuffs, Williams was released on personal recognizance with conditions he not have contact with the woman or her children. He must also undergo a substance abuse evaluation.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 20.
