The UMass softball team swept Rhode Island in a doubleheader Wednesday at home.
UMass won the first game, 7-2. Jena Cozza had two hits and two RBIs while Meg Colleran picked up the win in the circle.
Taylor Carbone pitched seven shutout innings in a 3-0 win in game two. Tara Klee knocked in two runs for the Minutewomen (12-20).
Amherst College 3, Smith College 2 (9); Amherst 5, Smith 3 — Lauren Tuiskula scored on an error in the ninth inning to give Amherst the win in game one.
In game two, Julia Turner had two hits and two RBIs for Amherst (14-5).
Allison Snyder had two RBIs in the loss for Smith (8-13).
Mount Holyoke 17, Coast Guard 3 — Catherine Ryan had eight assists and Leila Kouakou (Leeds) had three goals for the Lyons (2-8, 1-4 NEWMAC).
MIT 20, Smith College 9 — Emily Biggs (Florence) scored in a road loss for the Pioneers (4-8, 0-4 NEWMAC).
