Last weekend, a comedy production was staged at the Academy of Music, with the Northampton Survival Center selected as the beneficiary of the proceeds. Regrettably, some of the acts included humor that made light of homophobia, sexual harassment and assault, and we repudiate their comedic treatment of these subjects.
The Northampton Survival Center is a food pantry dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-income individuals and families throughout Hampshire County in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Messages of intolerance and aggression are antithetical to the spirit of healing and inclusiveness that informs our mission. We rely on, and are grateful for, the community’s caring support of our work, and with heartfelt apologies, we renew our dedication to ensuring that our presence here is nourishing to all.
