SHUTESBURY — As a precursor to the Valley Gives Day, the Shutesbury Community Church is holding an open house on Saturday.

Linda Hanscom, of Belchertown, who has been involved in restoration efforts at the 1827 meetinghouse, said the event, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature tours of the building, live music, a bake sale and May baskets for children.

Hanscom said the church sanctuary isn’t fully accessible, limiting the space that can be used for services.

“Our upstairs can no longer be used for church services because it is not accessible,” Hanscom said.

The sanctuary and other portions of the interior were restored after the church, which closed in 2005 due to declining membership, reopened in 2007.

“A lot of people rallied to the cause,” Hanscom said.

Since then, work has included restoring the steeple.

The neighboring M.N. Spear Memorial Library, which shares the town green and is also a Valley Gives participant, will also be open Saturday.
